Vista Cruiser

Today, I took 1525 for a ride. I had a few errands to run all over southern California. I included a stop at one of the better stocked accessory stores and brought my dial caliper.

I have to qualify that this is NOT a bolt on installation BUT, if you can use the Dremel tool that your wife bought you for Christmas without cuttin' yer head off, you CAN install this in 30 minutes or less.

I started with Vista Cruise 07-4044 which fits single and dual cable Yamahas. It includes two little steel brackets rattling around in the  package which are the key to this installation. The brackets are two different designs of retainer. One of them is for attaching to a screw on the bottom of the throttle assembly, JUST LIKE OURS. Bingo!

Remove the screw between the cables, install this bracket and tighten it back up. Later on, you may want to bend one of these tangs to get a tighter fit. When you install the cruise control, you'll understand.

Next, slide the grip down the bar to make a little extra room for the clamp. I used a blow gun nozzle inserted under the edge of the grip.   Squeezing the trigger inflated the grip enough that I could slide it off without damaging anything.

This is the part that involves the dremel tool or a file. First you need to get rid of the little tab sticking out on the bottom of the clamp. You'll   understand when you're looking at it. If you don't grind this little nub off, it will touch on the switch and cock the Vista cruise on the bar.

Next, you need to enlarge the center hole diameter to 1.150". You don't have to be exact. I just shaved a little and tested it, shaved some more and tested it. You want to get a good fit all the way around. When it fits around the throttle without binding, you can clamp it on. Put the tab between the tangs on the bracket you installed, slide the grip back on and adjust it.

Congrats, you've just installed your Vista Cruise. Now go inside, kiss your wife and tell her how much you apreciated getting that Dremel  tool for Christmas. A little sucking up never hurt. Maybe she'll get you that air compressor next year :-)

NOTE:
I just wanted to add something here. The Vista Cruise I bought had a STICKER on the package that read "New Fits Yamaha Dual Cable Also." I wanted to emphasize that because I don't know which of the two brackets I used from the package or how "new" this design is.
There is a possibility of getting an old package which might not include the bracket you need. Be sure that you get the one for "single AND  dual cable Yahahas"
Greg

Greg thanks for the info on the Vista Cruise. I got one and had it installed in no time.  My trick to open up the diameter ,was to take sand paper and wrap it a round a pipe or wood and hold the vista closed around it, came out round and even, fit perfect.
